Philippians 3:30 says, "Our citizenship is in heaven."
If we feel totally at home on this earth, totally at ease with its atmosphere,we are totally misguided. This earth is not a safe place, and it is not our real home. That doesn't mean that there aren't many earthly beauties and pleasures, but it our appreciation of all there is to enjoy here, we must always be wary. Why? C.
S. Lewis put it well when he said, "Satan, like a good chess player, is always trying to maneuver you into a position where you can save your castle only by losing your bishop."
There are many times when I forget that I live in enemy territory. Sometime I enjoy my earthly trappings so much that my heavenly hope seems far away and even diminished in its necessity. It often takes pain, injustice, or sickness to jerk me back into reality. In other words I need to "watch my bishop."
Are we supposed to live a life in paranoid dread and fear? No! Just the opposite. We are to live our lives in hope and confidence because He has overcome the world and gone to prepare a place for us. Our real home. Forever.
