You’ll notice this verse in Malachi isn’t prefaced with, “In the good time” or “once you’re making $50,000 a year”. This verse calls for us to tithe beyond our own circumstances. If we wait until we “have enough” that moment will never come. There’s always another purchase, another expense, another something that will give you an excuse.
My wife and I have taught Financial Peace University a few different times. Multiple times we’ve seen people get control of their finances and begin tithing. We’ve seen God work in their lives. Suddenly more hours open up at work or a surprise bonus come in. Now, I don’t think God only blesses us financially so I can’t sit here and tell you once you begin tithing your income will increase. But I will tell you trusting more in the Lord will only make your life better. Nine tenths carefully planned, budgeted, and spent wisely, with the blessings of the Lord, will go much farther than ten-tenths spent haphazardly without planning and without the Lord’s blessings.
PRAYER: Father, Help us to remember that everything belongs to you and that we are only the managers. Let us give freely of our resources, time and talents. Amen.
